Rosenberg & Co. NYC Art Gallery

New York, NY

Studio ST Architects designed the renovation of an Upper East Side New York brownstone to create a new art gallery for Rosenberg & Co. Established in Manhattan by Marianne Rosenberg, the gallery continues the Rosenberg family’s distinguished tradition of exhibiting art with an international roster of works by prominent impressionist, modern, and contemporary artists. The gallery renovation included new exhibition space, a small art library, offices and an outdoor sculpture garden. Studio ST Architects filed the plans with the Department of Buildings (DOB) and the Landmarks and Preservation Commission (LPC) to obtain approvals for this New York City gallery construction.

The art gallery renovation transformed a neglected ground floor of a townhouse into a welcoming, warm and human scale gallery. A series of rooms accommodate the larger pieces of art and invite the visitor from the entry foyer to the main gallery. An old storage room in the back was turned into a small library and sitting room in which the love of art can be shared and appreciated.

Marianne Rosenberg’s great-grandfather Alexandre Rosenberg (d. 1913), grandfather Paul Rosenberg (d. 1959), great-uncle Léonce Rosenberg (d. 1947), and father Alexandre P. Rosenberg (d. 1987) forged exclusive relationships with the artists they represented and were champions of impressionist and modern art in Paris in the early 20th century, moving the business to New York in 1940.
